Customize Your Keyboard Shortcut


Don’t use the keyboard shortcut that already used by your operating system.

In Adobe Photoshop CS3, you can customize your own keyboard shortcut. It already includes the keyboard shortcuts for a lot of tasks that are used frequently. Using the correct shortcuts, you will be able to work much more efficiently.
Actually, there are many tools from the toolbox that already have a shortcut. However, sometimes you need to go to the menu and select an item that is much more specific. In this case, let says you want to use a filter like a Gaussian blur filter. Then imagine if you are a Gaussian blur filter fan. You may use it in many parts of your project. This is why to customize your own keyboard shortcut. Imagine how much time that you can save if you are customizing your own keyboard for a filter that you are using frequently.
Creating your own customized keyboard shortcuts that fit your project is very easy. The old keyboard shortcuts in the Photoshop CS3 that are already assigned for the other tools can also be changed. Maybe you want to change the old shortcut into something that is much easier to remember. It can help you so much since there is no need to remember the shortcuts that are so hard to remember.
When a keyboard shortcut that you may choose is already used by the default Photoshop shortcuts, a warning will appear. Firstly, you need to change the Photoshop’s default shortcuts if you insist on using the shortcut you want for the other tools. However, there is one thing that you need to remember about making the customized shortcut. You should never use the keyboard shortcut that is already used by your operating system. It can be dangerous.
Here is how to customize your own keyboard shortcuts.

  1. Click edit – keyboard shortcuts. The keyboard shortcuts and menus dialog box will appear
  2. Select application menu, click filter expand arrow. In here, the filter will be listed along with the existing keyboard shortcuts
  3. Decide which filter you want to add the shortcut. Click the filter. In here, the filter will be highlighted and then the empty data field will appear just under the short column
  4. Press Ctrl when you are typing your new customized shortcut in the data field
  5. Click Accept. After that, the Photoshop default setting will be changed with your customized shortcut
  6. Click OK. This is the last part of customizing your shortcuts.
