My First Easy & Professional Photo Project

Imagine if we enjoy the photo but it is an unclear image or not too good in showing the detail of the picture. So, whose mistake is it? The photographer or the camera? Just kidding! We will not talk about that. We will talk about the new trend in digital imaging. High Dynamic Range (HDR) photos that can make the photo displayed in high quality view. How come? How do we do that? Can we do that although we are not a professional photographer? Well, you have to calm down, just keep reading this article to the end.

Let’s make our first High Dynamic Range photos. What we need is a digital camera & Photoshop installed into your PC or Notebook. It is better if you read a Photoshop Tutorial before we continue our first High Dynamic Range photo project. You can get Photoshop Tutorials in some books or articles on the web, including this site here.

It is assumed that you have read a Photoshop Tutorial so that we can start our first project.

You will need a digital camera with exposure compensation mode, tripod, and a PC with Adobe Photoshop installed. Please pay attention to the following lesson in creating HDR.

  1. Shoot
Start Taking the pictures now. Please use a tripod. Shoot the same object with a different exposure. Let’s take 3 pictures for example. Please make sure to not move when taking each picture. Shoot in RAW format.
  2. Save your picture!
Don’t lose your picture. Don’t forget to save it as 3 different files and convert the RAW format into JPEG.
  3. Photoshop in action
If you read the article about photo editing or the Photoshop Tutorial, you will find that the most common application in editing or merging photo is Adobe Photoshop. Now, click on file then choose merge to High Dynamic Range (make sure you have selected the three files).
  4. Be Patient
Calm down, the process takes a little time to convert your image into High Dynamic Range photo. Depending on how fast your computer is, your computer’s processor, how much Random Access Memory you have, etc. Just be patient. The process in improving the photo is on going.
  5. Mission Accomplished
Ok. Our first High Dynamic Range Project done. See how Photoshop can dramatically change your photo.

That’s all. Keep doing experiments. Hopefully you can find newer tricks in creating better High Dynamic Range images. See you in the next tips of Photoshop.
